The Rivers state ministry of Transport has called on the public, motorists and Transport operators to desist from harassing, obstructing or assaulting vehicle inspection officer (VIOs) while they are carrying out their lawful duties on our roads.
Vehicle inspection officers are mandated by law to ensure that vehicles operating on our roads are safe, properly documented and compliant with the traffic regulations.
Their activities are aimed at protecting lives, reducing road accidents and promoting orderly transportation within the state.
The ministry writes with concern the increasing cases of verbal abuse, intimidation, and physical attacks against officers during routine enforcement exercise.
Such actions are unacceptable and constitute a violation of the law.
Members of the public are advised to cooperate with the inspection officers during checks and are also reminded that any one found harassing or obstructing government officials on lawful duty will face full weight of the law.
The ministry remains committed to ensuring safe efficient, and orderly transportation for all residents.
