The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Dr. Vera Ndidi Sam-Dike, has called on transport operators in Rivers State to adhere strictly to the State Government’s policies in the transport sector.
Giving the charge today during a strategic meeting with chairmen and executives of transport unions operating across the state, she said they should desist from using unauthorized locations for loading, parking, or engaging in other commercial activities.
The meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s conference room, focused on key issues affecting the state’s transportation system and the need for closer cooperation between the government and transport stakeholders.
Speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary also emphasized the importance of complying with the directive requiring commercial vehicles operating in Rivers State to be painted in the approved Rivers State colours.
She expressed concern over the proliferation of loading bays across the state, noting that unauthorized loading points contribute to traffic congestion, environmental disorder, and also constitute safety risks.
Dr. Sam-Dike further urged transport union leaders to adequately sensitize their members on the government’s directives and work closely with the Ministry to ensure their effective implementation.
According to her, the cooperation and commitment of all stakeholders are essential to building a well-regulated, safe, efficient, and professional transport sector in Rivers State.
In their responses, all the leaders of the transport unions commended the Ministry for engaging them in dialogue and stated their commitment to working with the Ministry of Transport to ensure compliance with government policies and contribute to the continued development of the state’s transport sector.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by both the Ministry and the transport unions to sustain their collaboration in promoting safe, efficient, and coordinated transportation services across the State.
