The Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area (LGA) Hon. Akuro Alfred Tobin, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicate all forms of criminal activity within the LGA, including theft, vandalism, drug peddling, and other vices threatening the peace and security of residents.

Hon. Tobin made this declaration during a joint stakeholders’ meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Chairman’s Office, within the Council Secretariat Complex.

The meeting brought together representatives from all 12 wards of Okrika, including Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, secretaries, and members, Councillors, security operatives, and other key community leaders.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains the core responsibility of any government.

He expressed concern over the increasing cases of theft, drug abuse, and other social vices in the LGA, calling for a unified and strategic approach to address the situation.

“We must take deliberate steps to secure Okrika and safeguard our communities. I urge all stakeholders to return to their wards, consult with their local leadership, and develop practical strategies for tackling these issues head-on”, rhe stated.

Secretary of the Anyugu-Biri CDC, Mr. El-Shaddai Polomina, recommended legislative backing to ensure that offenders are either prosecuted or banished as a deterrent to others.

On his part, Chairman of the Ogoloma Central CDC, Mr. Nathaniel Fimie, called for the active involvement of the Amanyanabo and traditional chiefs in the security efforts.

The Divisional Police Officer of Okrika, CSP Sunusi Mala, assured the community of his readiness to support the initiative, but cautioned against jungle justice.

He emphasized that suspects must be handed over to the police with sufficient evidence and credible witnesses for lawful prosecution.

The Secretary of the Council, Dr. Kwani Oforiokumo, also supported collaborating with the Amanyanabo and traditional institutions to develop a comprehensive security blueprint for the LGA.

Also present at the meeting were the Chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the area, Hon. Vincent Ferguson Bamson; his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Hon. Abibo Tamuno Bereniye; and Mr. Ismail Adamu of the Department of State Security (DSS), among others.
