The Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Dr. Shedrack Chukwu Ogbogu, has ordered the immediate reopening of the Omoku Main Market following its unlawful closure by the Landlords’ Association during peak business hours.
Reacting to the incident, Honourable Ogbogu, who promptly visited the scene after being notified, expressed strong displeasure over what he described as an act of lawlessness.
He condemned the decision of the landlords to shut down the market, noting that it resulted in significant economic losses for traders who depend on daily sales for their livelihood.
The Chairman cautioned those responsible, emphasizing that there are established laws and procedures for resolving disputes, which must be strictly followed.
He warned against taking unilateral actions capable of disrupting public order and economic activities.
To address the issue, Honourable Ogbogu has summoned members of the Landlords’ Association to a meeting at the Council Secretariat on Monday, March 23, 2026, for further discussions and an amicable resolution.
