The Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Hon. Akuro Tobin, has been honoured with the Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition of his exemplary administrative leadership and outstanding performance in office.

The award was presented by the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Rivers State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Dr. Chimenem Worlu, during a solidarity visit to the Council Chairman at his office in the Okrika Local Government Council Secretariat.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Tobin urged youths across Rivers State to embrace peace, shun all forms of violence, and avoid actions capable of heating up the political atmosphere.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and making the sacrifices that leadership demands, noting that leadership comes with significant responsibilities and challenges.

Addressing the issue of office accommodation for the NYCN, as was presented by Dr. Worlu, the Council Chairman advised the youth body to continue operating from its current location pending further arrangements, while assuring the Council of his administration’s continued support and cooperation.

Tobin expressed gratitude to the NYCN for finding him worthy of the Outstanding Leadership Award and pledged to remain committed to policies and programmes that promote youth development and community progress.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Chimenem Worlu, thanked the Chairman for the warm reception and commended his inclusive style of governance, which he said has restored the confidence of young people in the local government area.

Worlu particularly praised Hon. Tobin’s youth-focused empowerment initiatives, including skills acquisition programmes, grants for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and agricultural support schemes, noting that these interventions have positively impacted the youths of Okrika.

He further stated that it was commendable to see Hon. Tobin maintaining his “Youth First” philosophy, a principle he championed during his tenure as Commissioner for Youth Development in Rivers State.

The NYCN Chairman appealed to the Council Chairman to assist the youth body with office accommodation, logistics support for youth programmes, official recognition, and partnership in youth-related initiatives.

He assured Hon. Tobin of the council’s unwavering support and cooperation.

Those present during the visit included the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Luke Urang; the Treasurer, Mr. Darlington Nweke; Hon. Mosley Mosley, Supervisor for Youth and Sports; Comrade Jonathan Gunn, Special Assistant on Youth Affairs; and other government officials.
