The Rivers State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Paul Bazia, has charged the newly elected Executive of the NUJ, Ministry of Information Chapel, to uphold integrity and work towards restoring unity within the chapel.

He gave the charge while swearing-in the new executive of the State Ministry of Information and Communications Chapel, after supervising the election, recently, at the newsroom of the Ministry in Port Harcourt.

He urged the new executive to “bring back this house together as one big family,” while advising members to participate actively in union meetings, noting that some members were disqualified from the electoral process because of poor meeting attendance.

Bazia administered the oath of allegiance to the newly elected executive members and congratulated the chapel on the successful conduct of the election.

The newly elected Chairman of the Chapel, ThankGod Nwaeke, in his acceptance speech, expressed appreciation to God and members who supported and voted in the election, pledging to discharge the responsibilities of his office in accordance with the constitution of the union.

He said, “We will ensure that everything that we were supposed to do and achieve in that office, we will do well to pursue it in accordance with the rules and regulations of the union.”

Earlier, the Credentials Committee Chairman, Joy Owhonda, addressed members and outlined the guidelines for the electoral process, explaining that accreditation and voting would be conducted simultaneously.

She urged members to maintain decorum and orderliness while assuring them of a transparent and credible electoral process.

At the end of the exercise, Owhonda announced that a total of 32 members were accredited and their votes declared valid, with Nwaeke polling 15 votes to emerge as Chairman of the NUJ Ministry of Information Chapel.

The election marked the emergence of a new leadership for the NUJ, Ministry of Information Chapel, with the newly elected executive taking the oath of allegiance and mounting the saddle for the next three years.
