The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports circulating in some national newspapers and online platforms alleging a disagreement between the Executive and Legislative arms of government over the passage of the 2026 budget.

The government made its position known in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Rivers State Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi.

According to the statement, the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, enjoys a healthy working relationship with the Rivers State House of Assembly, with both arms of government focused on promoting the interests and well-being of the people of the state.

The statement further clarified that the 2026 budget proposal has already been presented to the Rivers State House of Assembly and is currently undergoing the normal legislative process.

It added that the budget would be passed by the lawmakers upon completion of the required legislative procedures.

The Rivers State Government also cautioned against reports and narratives capable of creating unnecessary controversy and undermining the peace and development of the state.

“Rivers State has gone through difficult times in the past and is not prepared to be dragged into another round of controversies”, the statement said.

“We, therefore, advise all those bent on promoting negative narratives to desist from such actions forthwith, as we need peace and harmony to ensure steady development of Rivers State.”

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, harmony and cooperation among the various arms of government for the continued development of Rivers State.
