The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) has announced the resumption of free enrolment for pregnant women under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Agala, made this known during a three-day review meeting focused on improving the delivery of quality healthcare services in primary health centres across Rivers State.
Dr. Agala explained that the programme had earlier suspended the free enrolment of vulnerable groups after exhausting the quota initially allocated to the state.
However, enrolment has now resumed and will cover pregnant women and other vulnerable persons, including children under five years of age, the elderly, above 60 years, the chronically ill, and persons living with disabilities.
She added that eligible individuals must present their National Identification Number (NIN) to benefit from the scheme.
The RIVCHPP boss also expressed concern over the attitude of some healthcare workers towards patients, describing it as unsatisfactory.
She stressed that enrollees of the programme are highly valued and must be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion at all times.
Dr. Agala further directed all heads of primary health centres across the state to designate their facilities as enrolment centres for eligible vulnerable persons under the BHCPF.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (RSPHCMB), Dr. Adele Chituru, emphasised the need for improved patient care across all health facilities.
He noted that enhancing service delivery is essential to meeting the healthcare needs of residents in the state.
The three-day review meeting is a collaborative effort between RIVCHPP and RSPHCMB, aimed to assess the performance of primary health centres, identify gaps in service delivery, strengthen collaboration, and improve healthcare utilisation across the state.
Participants, including directors and healthcare professionals, shared insights on current practices in primary health centres and proposed strategies for improving service delivery.
