The Head of Service of Rivers State, Dr. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has assured would-be consultant pharmacists in the state public service of a thorough and data-driven review of their request for career advancement to consultancy cadre.
She gave the assurance while receiving a three-man delegation of would-be consultant pharmacists drawn from the Rivers State Ministry of Health and the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital in her office.
The delegation, led by Pharmacist Bawo Michael B., had appealed to the state government to adopt the federal government’s framework that allows pharmacists in federal service to progress to consultancy level, similar to medical doctors, noting that some Niger Delta states have already aligned with the federal approval.
Responding, the Head of Service commended the pharmacists for their professionalism and constructive engagement, stressing that her office remains committed to policies that promote career development and enhance service delivery across the state civil service.
She assured to meticulously interrogate the matter by consulting with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and engaging her counterparts in other states to gather comprehensive information and empirical data before arriving at a decision.
She emphasized that while she is supportive of initiatives that advance workers’ careers and strengthen institutional capacity, any action taken by the state must follow due process and be backed by legitimate approvals without any iota of doubt.
The meeting concluded with the presentation of symbolic souvenirs to the Head of Service by the would be consultant pharmacists, underscoring mutual respect and continued professional collaboration.
