Hon. Llyod (Front), with residents of Rumuodogo-Odegu Community during his visit.

Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, has condemned the vandalisation of electricity installations along the Evekwu-Odegu axis of the East-West Road by yet-to-be-identified criminals.

The vandals reportedly pulled down eight concrete high-tension electricity poles and carted away the high-tension cables and other vital components, including the rods used in casting the electric poles, resulting in power outages in parts of the Local Government Area.

He also expressed concern over the reported vandalisation of electricity installations in Rumuodogo-Odegu, where essential components of a transformer and other electrical installations were reportedly stolen.

Speaking on the incidents during a brief stopover at the site of the vandalisation on Thursday, Hon. Lloyd urged community leaders across the LGA to take ownership of and safeguard electricity installations and other public infrastructure in their respective communities.

He stressed that strangers could hardly carry out such acts successfully without the knowledge or involvement of some indigenous residents, urging communities to remain vigilant and protect public infrastructure within their domains.

The Emohua Council Chairman assured residents that the Local Government Council would liaise with the management of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) to develop measures to safeguard the high-tension line supplying electricity to the area from the Ahoada Transmission Station.

Earlier, the Council Chairman inspected some of the projects earmarked for commissioning as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration’s second term in office.

Among the projects inspected were the new Emohua Legislative Council Complex, the Ibaa Community Electrification Project, the reconstruction of internal roads and drainage systems at the Local Government Council Headquarters, and the remodelling and upgrading of the Local Government ICT Centre.

Meanwhile, Lloyd has approved the extension of the Rumuekpe Community Electrification Project being executed by his administration to cover parts of the community that were not captured in the first phase of the project.

Consequently, officials of the Emohua Local Government Council and representatives of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), led by the Council Secretary, Engr. Victor Benjamin, visited Rumuekpe on Thursday for the scoping of the proposed extension.
