The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) and the Rivers State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Systems (REMSAS) are strengthening their collaboration to ensure that residents of Rivers State have seamless access to healthcare services, including timely emergency medical care.

The two sister agencies made this commitment during a collaborative meeting held yesterday, at the office of the Executive Secretary of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Agala.

The meeting focused on strategies for enhanced cooperation and coordination towards advancing the Rivers State Government’s vision of #Health4AllRivers.

The agencies commended the Rivers State Government for its efforts to improve access to healthcare services across the state and encouraged residents to take advantage of the available healthcare programmes and services.

RIVCHPP and REMSAS play complementary roles in strengthening healthcare delivery and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Rivers State.

While RIVCHPP provides a social health protection framework aimed at reducing the financial burden of healthcare and facilitating access to quality and affordable health services, REMSAS provides critical emergency medical response and ambulance services to individuals requiring urgent medical attention.

The collaboration between the two institutions aligns with the broader objective of building a responsive, accessible and people-centred healthcare system in Rivers State, where residents can receive timely medical attention while being protected from financial hardship.

Speaking with journalists at the end of the meeting, the Executive Secretary of RIVCHPP, Dr. Agala, said effective collaboration, coordination and clearly defined referral pathways would enable both agencies to better support enrolled residents requiring emergency medical services.

According to her, such collaboration would help ensure that residents in need of emergency care are appropriately attended to and connected to relevant healthcare facilities for further treatment, in line with applicable service arrangements and coverage provisions.
