Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area (LGA) Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has approved the construction of a dedicated Centre for Persons with Disabilities in the LGA.
He said this is in line with his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and improved social support systems.
The Chairman made the disclosure during a courtesy visit by the Association of People with Disability, Bonny Chapter, led by its President, Comrade Benstowe B. Salucky.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the association and the Council to enhance the welfare of persons living with disabilities in Bonny.
During the visit, the association outlined key challenges faced by its members, including limited empowerment opportunities and the absence of a functional assembly hall.
In his response, Pepple restated his administration’s resolve to implement policies and programmes that advance inclusion, accessibility, and the integration of persons with disabilities into ongoing development initiatives across the LGA.

He also announced plans for a fully equipped Centre for Persons with Disabilities, envisioned as a hub for skills acquisition, training, and other empowerment programmes.
In addition, the Chairman approved a monthly subvention of N1 million to support the association’s welfare activities.
Demonstrating prompt action, Hon. Pepple, accompanied by the Council’s Engineer and the Director of Works, immediately inspected a proposed site for the centre.
