Residents and community leaders of Iwo-Ama Nkoro have commended the Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon. James A. James (JAJ), for restoring electricity to the community after more than nine years without power.

Speaking with reporters following the restoration, community leaders, including Alabo Wilson Osokor and Hon. Harry Derrick, as well as some youths from the area, expressed appreciation to the council chairman for repairing the community’s faulty power generator.

They said the return of electricity would not only boost economic activities in the community, but also provide young people with opportunities to engage meaningfully in productive ventures.

The community leaders, however, appealed to the local government council to ensure a regular supply of diesel to enable the generator to operate intermittently and sustain electricity in the area.

Iwo-Ama Nkoro, one of the satellite communities of Nkoro Kingdom in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, had been without electricity for over nine years following the breakdown of its community generator.

The situation changed after Hon. James A. James intervened by repairing the abandoned generator, which had remained non-functional under successive administrations.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Media, Bestman Silas Dokubo, the restoration of electricity in Iwo-Ama Nkoro was an intervention that many successive administrations had been unable to achieve.

The statement said the chairman’s decision to restore power to the community was not merely a project, but a demonstration of his love, compassion and commitment to the people of Iwo-Ama Nkoro.

Beyond repairing the generator, the chairman has also facilitated new electrical connections from the poles to individual homes and provided the community with a modern electrical ladder to assist with emergency electrical repairs and maintenance.

The statement further disclosed that Hon. James had promised to connect Iwo-Ama Nkoro to the National Grid, a move expected to provide the community with a more sustainable and dependable electricity supply, similar to what is enjoyed by some other communities in the area.
