Members of the Rivers State Multistakeholder Action Committee on Gender Based Violence Prevention.

The Rivers State Multi-Stakeholder Action Committee on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention has commenced another phase of its statewide media sensitisation campaign aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing residents to prevent gender-based violence.

The Committee, with support from ActionAid, said the campaign, which is expected to run until the end of August, will feature members of the Committee taking turns on radio programmes to educate the public on the causes, forms, and consequences of gender-based violence while promoting collective responsibility for preventing all forms of abuse.

The media engagement will also highlight the provisions of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP Law) and the Child Rights Law, penalties for perpetrators, available reporting channels, and support services for survivors of gender-based violence.

According to the Committee, sustained public enlightenment remains critical to addressing harmful social norms, and encourage the timely reporting of abuse, while fostering safer homes and communities across Rivers State.

The Committee expressed appreciation to ActionAid for its continued support in strengthening efforts to prevent gender-based violence and protect the rights and dignity of women and girls as well as other vulnerable persons.

It encouraged residents to tune in to Wazobia FM 94.1 every Thursday at 10:15 a.m. to participate in the discussions and join the collective effort to end gender-based violence in Rivers State.
