The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) following an inspection tour of selected examination centres across the State.
The monitoring exercise, he’s said, which covered schools within and outside Port Harcourt, was aimed at assessing compliance with examination guidelines and ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination organised by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Speaking during the visit, Nwagor described the atmosphere at the centres as peaceful, orderly, and conducive for learning.
He observed that candidates were conducting themselves appropriately while invigilators and supervisors diligently discharged their duties.
The Commissioner noted that the Rivers State Government had invested considerable resources and implemented strategic measures to guarantee the successful conduct of the examination across the State.
He urged candidates to remain focused and avoid any form of examination malpractice, stressing that hard work and integrity remain the surest paths to academic success.
“Government has done so much to ensure the successful conduct of examinations in our schools. Students should take advantage of these efforts by concentrating on their studies and refraining from any form of examination malpractice”, he said.
While acknowledging that no incident of examination malpractice was recorded in any of the centres visited, he warned that any principal, teacher, invigilator, supervisor, or examination official found engaging in or facilitating malpractice would face appropriate sanctions in line with established regulations.
The Commissioner also commended school administrators, teachers, examination officials, and security personnel for their dedication to upholding the integrity of the examination process.
He encouraged them to sustain the high standards observed throughout the exercise.
Schools visited during the monitoring exercise included County Grammar School, Ikwerre/Etche; Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri; Government Secondary School, Borokiri; and Model Secondary School, Pabod.
