About 220 families in Andoni Local Government Area have benefited from a palliative distribution programme initiated by the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Prince Lucky Promise Otuo.
The beneficiaries, drawn from the 11 Wards in the LGA, received food items and cash donations targeted at women and vulnerable families, as part of the Council’s efforts to cushion economic hardship and improve residents’ welfare.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at Ngo Town, Hon. Otuo said the intervention was driven by his administration’s commitment to improving the living conditions of the people of Andoni.
He described the exercise as the first phase of a broader social intervention programme that would be implemented in stages across the local government.
The Andoni Council Chairman also assured residents that peace and security have been restored across the LGA and stated his administration’s commitment to sustaining a safe and peaceful environment for development.
Hon. Otuo announced plans to commence the continuation of the commissioning of projects executed by his administration, noting that several completed projects would soon be inaugurated for the benefit of the people.
He assured beneficiaries that additional empowerment initiatives and welfare programmes would be rolled out in the coming months to further support men, youths and women in strengthening families, and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
The event witnessed the presence of the Deputy Chief Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Ofiks Kagbang Christopher, who officially flagged-off the palliative distribution and commended the Chairman for the initiative.
The Andoni lawmaker also urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the support provided to improve their well-being.
Also present at the event were the Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal House of Representatives candidate, Hon. Frederick Apiafi; the Opobo/Nkoro State House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Kenneth Minimah; Executives of the Rivers State PDP Women Wing; Party Leaders; Stakeholders; and other dignitaries.
Some beneficiaries, in their reactions, said the programme underscores Hon. Otuo’s administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development.
They expressed optimism that more intervention programmes would be introduced to improve the welfare and economic well-being of the people of Andoni LGA.
