In a renewed effort to promote effective and responsive governance at the grassroots level, the Mayor of Port Harcourt Local Government Area (PHALGA), Allwell Ihunda, has charged newly appointed political office holders to use their positions to make meaningful impact in the local government.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Council Secretariat, Ihunda said the appointees were carefully selected from among many qualified individuals, and should see their appointments as a call to service rather than an entitlement.
“You are not the most intelligent or the best among the lot; it is simply your time of privilege. Use your office to make a positive impact in our local government and in the lives of our people”, he charged.
Ihunda further charged the newly appointed Supervisors and Special Advisers to use their portfolios to promote the image of Port Harcourt City, ensure inclusiveness, and carry everyone along in the discharge of their duties.
Commending the Councillors for their active participation in mobilizing residents for the ongoing voter registration exercise, Ihunda urged the new appointees to join the effort by encouraging their constituents to register and participate in the democratic process.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Hon. Beauty Amadichukwu expressed gratitude to the Mayor for the opportunity to serve, assuring him of their commitment to work diligently towards advancing the development of the Local Government Area.
The five nominees screened and cleared for the position of Supervisors by the 10th Legislative Assembly of the Council, led by the Leader, Hon. Noble Hanacho Orlu were Pastor Sunny Wokekoro, Godswill Fiabama, Chidiebere Ibechenjo, Frank Amadi, and Beauty Amadichukwu.

Other appointees sworn in include Engr. Dennis Ejekwu as Secretary to the Council, Glory Amadi Oparaodu as Chief of Staff, while Special Advisers were Engr. Chile Elvis Ogbonda, Bossom Mark, Iyeneomi Jack, Kingsley Chinda, and Evans Igbokwe.
As at the time of filing this report, the specific portfolios for the Supervisors and Special Advisers were yet to be announced.
