The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, has urged the management and staff of the Rivers State Television (RSTV) to adopt a results-driven approach to revenue generation to secure the station’s long-term sustainability and relevance.
Dr. Sirawoo, who made the call in Port Harcourt during the station’s 41st anniversary and its fifth Annual Prayer and Account of Stewardship Programme, emphasized that strategic planning, innovation, and internal efficiency are essential for the station to thrive in an increasingly competitive media landscape.
Represented by the Head of Public Enlightenment in the Ministry, Ms. Joy Owhonda, the Permanent Secretary stressed the need to block financial leakages and strengthen internal systems.
He advised the station to explore new revenue streams while delivering high-quality programming that attracts both public interest and government support.
“Ensure that revenue loopholes are blocked and explore new ways of increasing internally generated revenue, while attracting government attention through quality service”, he urged.
He underscored the importance of producing rich, competitive on-air content capable of sustaining audience engagement and maintaining visibility.
The PS encouraged staff to be intentional and forward-thinking, noting that internal efficiency and strategic planning remain vital to institutional growth and expansion.
He also charged them to uphold the highest standards of diligence, integrity, and professionalism, describing these values as fundamental to organizational success.
“I urge you to be diligent and take your responsibilities seriously. Build character and integrity, as these are the pillars of any successful organisation”, he added.
The Permanent Secretary noted the critical role of RSTV in strengthening public broadcasting by promoting transparency, accountability, and effective communication between the government and citizens.
Earlier, the Acting General Manager of RSTV, Paul Dambor, expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s continued support.
He noted that the monthly Prayer and Account of Stewardship Programme serves as a platform for performance review, spiritual reflection, and strategic planning aimed at improving service delivery.
Dambor also outlined ongoing initiatives to boost staff morale, including training programmes for IT students and National Youth Service Corps members, as well as the renovation of staff quarters to create a more conducive working environment.
Delivering a brief exhortation, Pastor Joshua Elkanah of Centre 4 World Revival described media practice as a calling rather than just a profession.
He referred to the media as one of the “seven mountains of influence” shaping society and urged practitioners to think creatively to remain relevant in the evolving broadcasting landscape.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to outstanding staff for April, with cash rewards aimed at motivating excellence and dedication.
