The Rivers State Executive Council (SEC) has approved a ₦1.8 trillion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year, which reaffirms the state government’s resolve to prioritise infrastructural development and economic growth.
The approval was granted at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Governor of the State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Executive Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Matters and Social Development, Prof. Peter Medee, disclosed that the budget, christened “The Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development”, reflects the administration’s commitment to sustained development despite politically induced challenges.
Prof. Medee stated that the total size of the 2026 budget stands at ₦1,854,248,734,475.76.
According to him, it explains that the proposed estimate is designed to address critical obligations of the state, while ensuring the completion of ongoing projects.
“It is against this backdrop that the State Executive Council has approved the 2026 budget theme as the Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development.
“This reflects the fact that, despite numerous challenges, the state government has remained resilient, focused, and committed to achieving key development targets for the people of Rivers State”, he said.
He added that “The State Executive Council has approved the aggregate sum of ₦1,854,248,734,475.76 for the provision of goods and services in Rivers State for the 2026 fiscal year.
“The main thrust of the proposed estimate is to enable the state to complete ongoing projects and clear outstanding obligations in critical sectors.”
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, noted that the administration is determined to recover lost ground in project delivery, adding that the budget prioritises infrastructural development across the state.
He said, “The Governor Siminalayi Fubara administration is determined to bridge the lost ground in project execution. For this reason, a robust budget figure was arrived at after thorough and deliberate considerations aimed at positioning Rivers State where it ought to be.”
