The Permanent Secretary Designate, Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, has called on the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP), Rivers State Chapter, to strengthen its collaboration with the State Government to improve the delivery of quality healthcare services across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.
De. Wachukwu, who made the call today during a courtesy visit by the executives of the Association in his office in Port Harcourt, urged private healthcare providers operating in the State to ensure that the services they render remain within the scope of their professional practice.
He stressed that medical practitioners must uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in healthcare delivery.
He also advised private health facilities to employ only qualified and competent medical personnel, noting that this would help eliminate quackery and safeguard the quality of healthcare services.
According to him, “Our colleagues in the private sector should continue to uphold professional standards by engaging qualified and well-trained health personnel, maintain a conducive working environment, and fulfilling their tax obligations to avoid sanctions from relevant regulatory agencies.”
Wachukwu used the opportunity to state the Rivers State Government’s commitment to partnering with the private health sector to improve healthcare outcomes for residents.
“The Government”, he said, “would continue to ensure that medical commodities supplied to the State are distributed equitably across both public and private health facilities to support effective service delivery.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the ANPMP, Rivers State Chapter, Dr. Edmund Anufuru, assured the Ministry of the Association’s continued support for the Rivers State Government through the provision of prompt, accessible, and quality healthcare services.
He commended the State Government for creating an enabling environment for private medical practice and stated the Association’s commitment to complementing government efforts in delivering quality healthcare to the people.
Dr. Anufuru, however, expressed concern over the rising cost of fuel, describing it as a major challenge affecting the operations of many private health facilities.
He appealed to the Government to improve electricity supply across the State to reduce the high cost of running hospitals in order to enhance service delivery.
