Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured the Muslim community in the State of his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and properties of all residents and business owners in the state.

He gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the Muslim Ummah, led by Alhaji Nasir Uhor, Vice President-General of the Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs, during a Salah homage held in celebration of Eid-el-Fitr at Government House, Port Harcourt, today.

Addressing the delegation, the Governor emphasized that all residents, regardless of their state of origin, are considered integral members of Rivers State.

“Once you live and do business here, you are a Rivers indigene. Even if not by birth, your presence, your families, and your investments here make you part of this state. We, therefore, have every reason to assure you that your lives and properties will be protected.

“As a government, we will continue to do our best to make Rivers State safe for everyone,” he said.

The Governor commended the Muslim community for their dedication and steadfastness during the holy month of Ramadan.

He also noted that the relative absence of herders-farmers conflict in the state, which is common in other parts of the country, can be attributed to strategic engagement and effective coordination between the state government and security agencies.

While urging Islamic leaders to encourage peaceful coexistence among their members, he said, “On your part, you should establish internal mechanisms to guide your people, ensuring they conduct themselves responsibly within their host communities.

“As leaders, you are close to them and can influence their actions. Let us all work together to sustain the peace in our state.”

Fubara also expressed appreciation to the Muslim community for their support and prayers, particularly during the period of emergency rule and his transition into office, assuring them of continued collaboration with his administration.

In his remarks, Alhaji Nasir Uhor thanked the Governor for granting the delegation an audience and commended his commitment to promoting religious inclusivity in the state.
