The Executive Secretary of Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), Dr. Vetty Rolegherighan Agala has commended the policy trust of the Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ette Ekwe Ibas led administration in the state in terms of supporting the health insurance outfit and other health related programmes in the state.

Dr. Agala, who made the commendation in her office on Thursday, 28th August, 2025, while holding a press briefing, said, “This meeting is to brief Rivers’ people on the progress RIVCHPP has made in the last 7 months and appreciate the administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ette Ekwe Ibas for prioritising healthcare “.

RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary announced that under the leadership of Administrator Ibas, the government has funded the enrolment of 20,000 pensioners and vulnerable groups at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centres, inauguration of RIVCHPP Board, which is ably led by Prof. Princewill Chike, approval for the onboarding of all civil servants, releasing both counterpart and equity funds, as the government’s contributions to the proper workings of the health insurance agency.

Dr. Agala reiterated that by the enrolment of pensioners into RIVCHPP’s scheme, the administration of Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibas is ensuring that the people who served Rivers State, those who gave their best years to the service of Rivers State will not be left out, as the initiative will protect the pensioners and their health needs.

RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary then announced that with the positive policy disposition of the Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibas administration, RIVCHPP is now poised to fully operationalize its health plans, raise massive awareness, and strengthen healthcare service delivery in Rivers State.

Dr. Agala, however, urged all Rivers residents to get their National Identification Number (NIN) ready, as it is the major prerequisite to have them enrolled into all RIVCHPP’s programmes, as the health insurance agency is poised to finance healthcare access across all levels of healthcare.

In another development, RIVCHPP has had a data revitalisation/ revalidation meeting with all its focal persons in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state towards ensuring accurate data for decision making and reaccreditation visits are currently ongoing in collaboration with National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in all the accredited health facilities across the state.
