Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, has urged newlyweds, Tracy Fubara and Nachi Ibe Eresia Eke, to build their marriage on the foundation of Christ, saying a union anchored in God would withstand life’s challenges.
She gave the charge while speaking at the Wedding Reception in honour of the couple at the White Jade Event Centre, Port Harcourt, yesterday.
The Deputy Governor advised the couple to make Christ the centre of their home and remain guided by the Word of God, stressing that a marriage founded on Christ would stand firm in times of adversity.
She reminded them that misunderstandings and challenges were inevitable in marriage, but urged them to remain committed to each other and resist anything that could come between them.
“Lay the foundation of your marriage in Christ. When you put it on Christ, when the storm comes, you will survive it. You will be like the house built on the rock”, she said.
She also encouraged them to nurture their love, support each other and remain faithful to their marital vows, urging Nachi in particular to continually remember the love that brought them together.
Prof. Odu prayed for a peaceful, enduring and Christ-centred marriage for the couple, assuring them of the continued love and support of their families and friends as they begin their journey together.
In his speech, the Chairman of the wedding reception, Hon. Asita Honourable, appealed to the couple’s parents and relatives to avoid interfering in their marriage, stressing that the couple should be allowed to apply the values they were taught while growing up.
He urged the bride to respect her husband and stressed that the success of the marriage depends largely on the couple’s commitment, faithfulness and willingness to uphold the values of God.
