The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA), Sir Allwell Ihunda, has charged members of the 10th Legislative Assembly to enact laws that will promote sustainable growth and good governance in the Port Harcourt metropolis.

Sir Ihunda gave the charge during an official visit to the councillors who were participating in a five-day capacity-building workshop organized by his administration.

The training aims to enhance lawmakers’ effectiveness, strengthen Legislative/Executive collaboration, and deepen their understanding of legislative procedures, representation, and teamwork in local governance.

The Mayor expressed satisfaction with the progress of the workshop and urged the councillors to apply the knowledge gained in their legislative duties, particularly in lawmaking, oversight functions, and impactful representation of their constituents.

“This capacity-building workshop is designed to prepare you for your legislative responsibilities. We believe the knowledge you acquire here will help you make sound laws and bylaws that will promote development and good governance in our city”, he stated.

He assured the legislators of his administration’s continued support for more training programmes that would further enhance their capacity and legislative effectiveness for the overall benefit of Port Harcourt residents.

Ihunda also commended the councillors, led by the Leader of the Legislative Assembly, Hon. Noble Ibemkam Orlu, for their active participation and commitment throughout the training.

The Mayor further appreciated the resource person and consultant, Eze Arthur Kalagbor, for delivering a well-structured programme aligned with his administration’s developmental vision.

In his remarks, the Leader of the 10th Legislative Assembly, Hon. Noble Ibemkam Orlu, expressed gratitude to the Mayor for sponsoring the workshop, describing it as a timely initiative that would improve legislative performance.

“We are deeply grateful to the Mayor for investing in our growth. This training has equipped us with the knowledge and tools to strengthen our collaboration with the executive arm and ensure the smooth running of governance in the council”, he stated.

Hon. Orlu also emphasized the need for continuous training and retraining of councillors to promote their professional development and legislative competence.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of certificates of participation to the legislators by the Mayor.
