Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara (with mic), addressing newsmen during the inspection of the progress of work on the 12.5km Trans-Kalabari Road project.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured the people of the State that the Trans-Kalabari Road project will be speedily completed, saying the project will reach a major milestone within the next six months.

He gave the assurance yesterday during an inspection of the 12.5-kilometre Trans-Kalabari Road, where he commended Lubrik Construction Company for the remarkable progress recorded so far.

According to the Governor, about 75% of the piling work, which is a critical component of the project, has already been completed.

“The first phase of the project extends to Bakana and features four major river-crossing bridges and nearly five deck-on-pile structures.

“The terrain is challenging, and the engineering work required is complex. But to the glory of God, I can confirm that the reports I have been receiving are accurate. Almost 75% of the piling job, which is the most critical aspect, has been achieved”, the Governor said.

He further stated that the Trans-Kalabari Road is a transformative project that will significantly improve the lives of the Kalabari people upon completion.

“This is a key project that will change the lives of the Kalabari people immediately it is completed. By the grace of God, in the next six months, when we return for inspection, we might be driving across the bridge”, he added.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritise the needs of Rivers people through sustainable infrastructure and people-centered development projects, describing the Trans-Kalabari Road as a signature project of his administration.

The ₦225.1 billion Trans-Kalabari Road project was flagged-off by former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on May 20, 2024, with an initial completion timeline of 32 months.

When completed, the Trans-Kalabari Road will link the various Kalabari communities by road, enhance connectivity, and accelerate socio-economic development in the area.
