The installation of speed bumps has been identified as a key measure to reduce the frequency of road accidents across the streets of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital.

This was the resolution reached during the weekly plenary session of the Port Harcourt City Legislative Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Noble Hanacho, Councillor representing Ward 13.

The motion was raised by Hon. Daddy Igo, Councillor representing Ward 3, who emphasized that many accidents on the streets of Port Harcourt have been caused by excessive speeding.

He stated that the installation of speed bumps would help curb reckless driving and significantly enhance the safety of residents.

In addition, Hon. Chima Ferdinand Nsiegbe, representing Ward 12, raised concerns over the dangers posed by open manholes.

He appealed to the Leader of the Assembly to liaise with the Executive Arm of Government to urgently address the issue and improve safety on the roads.

In response, the Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Hanacho, announced that a committee will be established to investigate the matters raised and present recommendations to the Executive for swift action to be taken.
